peaking a bit while sampling? leave it or re-record? 1k jjos

so i have always recorded my samples and if they ever reach the peak once, i re start it and turn the gain down, but some songs have alot of dynamic range, so it makes the other parts of the samples really soft.

i could adjust this in pgm mode later, but sometimes they are so soft that even when i turn the pad level up to 100 they are soft compared to some of the other samples in the program.

so i have noticed that it doesnt really cause nasty sounding clicks or digital distoriton unless you are really over driving the recording, so i might start to keep these kinds of samples that only peak sometimes. although im pretty ocd about that kind of stuff and dont want to get to the mix stage and find that the samples peaks are squared to hell.

do any of you guys automatically re-record a sample if at one part it clips? or do you just leave it if it doesnt sound bad?

I usually start to record again and even before recording try to check what are the loudest parts of the sample and adjust input level accordingly. Imo it's better to get as loud as possible recording cleanly. You can always use a compressor to make everything balanced (more uniform?) volume wise. Distortion is something you'll never get out of your recording afterwards.

But that said, your ears are the best judge of each situation. If it sounds good then it's good.
