MPC 1000 TRACKING TO PRO TOOLS

I've started making loops on my new mpc1000 a few days ago. very surprised how quickly im learning. I'd now like to track my loops onto protools 8 but all i have is an MBOX mini. can i do this? if so how?

Plug the stereo audio outs from the MPC into the MBox Mini DI inputs.

Record the output from the MPC to a stereo track in Pro Tools.

If you want to split up the MPC sequence/song onto multiple tracks in Pro Tools, then you need to work out how you are going to do that.

If not already doing so, you might want to organise different sounds onto different MPC tracks, so you can solo and record one MPC track into Pro Tools at a time, depending on how you want the sounds split up inside Pro Tools.

Then, if recording more than a stereo pair into Pro Tools, you would need to sort out sync between recording of different tracks, so they are in time with each other once inside Pro Tools after being recorded in separate takes.

You options for sync are to use a MIDI interface on the computer, for the MPC to sync to Pro Tools over MIDI, with MIDI Time Code or MIDI Beat Clock as the sync protocol...

...you can use some sort of audio sync pulse/click/etc. signal, that is the same on each track/recording pass, and that you zoom in to sample level after recording and line up the different recording passes/tracks visually using the sync pulse/click/etc.

You could, for example, set the metronome to count in on playback at the start of each track/recording pass, and visually line up the metronome clicks.

thanks for the quick reply. i usually organized my beats per track, snare track, kick track, hi hat, sample(s) etc. so i would just have to record them in one at a time? do to the lack of inputs on the mbox i guess? ill definitly have to reasearch the whole syncing aspect im not very familiar with this...

Yes, one stereo pair, or just one side of the stereo pair (to a mono track in Pro Tools) if using a mono sample, at a time, in multiple passes, since you only have 2 inputs on your MBox Mini.

If you already have a MIDI interface, and MIDI cables, you can give MIDI sync a try.

Also good to put a blank bar at the start of your sequences, to give it time to sync up properly and start playback, when recording.

If you don't have a MIDI interface, maybe try using an audio signal with a sharp attack, as I described, in that blank bar at the start of the sequence, on each track at exactly the same time location, (or the metronome set to count in on playback), and use that to visually line up the different recording passes once in Pro Tools.

im really just using wav. drum samples. so i'm thinking i can just, lay down my samples i have chopped . track those into protools. and just place my drum samples in protools... save me time from tracking something can just duplicate in pro tools. until i upgrade to pro tools 11. i believe i can track 4 at a time with the mbox 3 pro
