Hi!

I don't own a MPC yet, but I'm thinking about getting me one.
But before I do anything I'd like to know some things first...

I know the MPC-1000 is basically ment for drums and beat samples,
but is it possible to create great sample-banks like a pianos and other
instruments like that?

I own a Yamaha A-3000 sampler, but its too old, slow and unreliable in
live situations. Therefore i'm looking for something more quick and user
friendly. (and not too expensive) Would a MPC-1000 do it for me?

I use mostly instruments like: musicbox, oboes, melotrones, organs and
different sound effects.

Hope you can give me some answers or advice..

It can do pianos and other melodic sounds, but it's basic and not very friendly to create. For example:
- in a "real" sampler you can assign a sample to a range, e.g. C1 - F1. Not in the MPC1000, you have to assign each MIDI note (1 note = 1 pad) individually.
- Looping works, but there's no proper "release" after you lift the key, it makes it impossible to get certain effects.
- Sample engine has no pitch bend, volume or other CC support.

But I'm doing it, I describe some of the limitations at the bottom of the FAQ I put together, and I have a few Programs for download that work that way, you can play them in tune from a MIDI keyboard or direct from the pads. Just don't expect it to replace a "real" sampler in all ways...
