I'm pretty sure this is a standard and very simple question, but seeing as how I just got my MPC, maybe someone could help. How do I go about editing or re-recording the midi data of a certain part of a sequence. For example, I am making a song with a bunch of different instruments played all the way through (song changes, don't want loops.) with my external midi synthesizer. ON my piano track, I botched one of the chords, and so stopped recording the midi data. What I want to know is, how do i go about "punching in" or re-recording from that point on...to replay the chord and correct it. Don't want to go in and edit notes on the screen..just want to replay that part. What are the easiest ways to do that? Also, let's say I just messed up one part but kept playing. Could i go in and edit / replay just that one bar without affecting the data that comes after? Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Just to clear something, when you press REC it erase everything that was on the track while it's recording, but if you press OVERDUB it will record on top of what was on the track before, without erasing anything.
There's a couple of ways to do what you asked..
press OVERDUB and PLAY. Now press and hold the ERASE button, and just before the note starts to play press the pad with the note you wish to erase. It will erase those notes from the track as long as you keep pressing the pad.
You can also erase it in Step-Edit, check out the manual to see how it works.
Then when you've erased the note, just press OVERDUB and PLAY START so you can record the new note to the track.
