Bass > MPC

So far I've just been using samples, the Minitaur and Tempest etc but I like a bit of live bass for the top end. So, if I want to record bass straight to MPC would something like the Sans Amp Bass Driver work or do I need to go through something else too? Anyone working like this?

Why don't you sample from the headphone out of the bass amp? Call it a day and smoke some bud to forget about this whole bru haha.

if you dont want extra noise use a DI Box man.

No need for an expensive amp, just something to ground and boost.

mine cost me 30 bucks, and saved so many **** headaches.

i just record my bass and apply a low pass filter tht removes the statik and shit ;|

There's a user here called em.pee.cee or something... He's on youtube as Nashid. Makes some nice music with definitely nice bass sounds. I remember him saying he simply plugs his bass guitar straight into the MPC (a 4k i think).

Do you have a mixing desk? Does it have an instrument input? Otherwise, a bass effect pedal like a zoom B.1u something, DI-box like others have mentioned, etc...

something like a tech 21 sansamp is great if you want to shape the tone of the bass before sampling it, to get that mix of direct recorded bass and simulated behaviour of a miked amp with tube saturation and "air".

my sansamp is pemanently hooked up to the first mike pre on my interface and not to the mpc, because i use the phantom power to feed the sansamp and i also use it to play bass and guitars into logic. so i can choose where the signal goes from the interface and i can quickly repatch whatever mono or stereo input i want to the mpc.

a simple di box may be a bit cheaper if you don´t need any tone shaping on the way in.

being passive / active can have a a lot to do with it, so can using the right type of cable.
Even the instrument input on interfaces (im using a focusrite 18i20) the instrument input is ordinary, and still introduces noise, just at lower levels.

Some kind of pedal / di box will go a long way!

i think nashid recorded the bass to PT then bounced back to his MPC60 (if its the same video i watch it a bit, trying to improve my bass turnarounds) dude is no slouch on the bass.

Most gear nowadays come with a Hi-Z input. If your MPC has one, no need for anything. Just plug the bass straight in.

Nope. No Hi Z on any MPC.

DI box or headphone out.

Or if you want to take it up a notch, record from a mic pointed at bass amp monitor. Left input for the mic with line out preamp and Right input for the DI box and you'll capture some good bass. Depending how far you point the mic, 12" away being the average point but its where ever you want it and as a guide, the closer the lower end will sound and further away, the more brighter and softer.

Yea, I plug straight into the 4000. I record into Ableton and bounce back to the MPC if I'm using something other the the 4k. I think I get decent results. I tried a DI box and I think the one I bought was defective. So I just said **** it and kept plugging directly in to the MP.
