what is an arpeggio pattern on a keyboard and is it useful

are arpeggio patterns great??? are they really useful in creating riffs and what not ??

sorry im all new at arpeggio's just scratching my head wondering!

an arpeggio is basically a pattern which is played by the keyboard and is used by just pressing on the key and having a mad ass riff playing. you can get some crazy textures and really nice basselines... I sometimes use an arpeggio on drum parts and it gives you crazy riffs.... very useful for that extra je ne sais quoi....
