Getting sounds to playback

Wassup people. I have a mpc 4000 that I'm trying out and I can't get the sounds to playback. I load the sounds via my zip disk, assign it to a pad, and when I strike the pad there's no playback. The in meter is moving on the display but no playback. If i go in to the sample edit screen I can hear the sound. What am I doing wrong? I've been through the owners manual but it doesn't shed any light on the subject. I own a 2000 so I'm not totally new to the process. Helllllllppppp. Thanks

at first i would have said try turning up the channel volume on your mixer but you said when you go into sample edit it plays....so im not sure....

try using full level when hittin the pad. maybe the sample itself is really low and you cant hear it. im not sure. srry. good luck.

It's not the samples. they work fine on my 2000. I don't know what it is though. It's kind of crazy. I'll keep messing with it though
