As the title says, I have an mpc one arriving in the morning.

I'm an octatrack mk2 user, and am really comfortable with the Elektron work flow, sequencing tricks and all of that.

I've ordered the mpc for a few reasons, one of which was to use it in our live rig. The live rig is the tr8s, tt 303, crave, octatrack, and the 1010 blackbox. The mpc is to replace the blackbox--mainly because of the way it handles midi, but also due to its inability to be used as a truly live device (effects for example).

The mpc will be used to trigger samples, play chords, and probably sequencing other kit- although this is currently taken care of by the octatrack, so not the main use. I will be using it to sample, but mostly it'll be for triggering samples already created

I've digressed, so back on track. I'm aware that there's going to be a learning curve with the new box and now is probably the best time to learn it due to not being able to do much else.

What are the main things I need to be aware of in terms of coming over to the mpc way of doing things?

What do I need to do as soon as it arrives?

The resources are listed in the forum and I shall take advantage of these. I'd also be interested in any 'must see' resources that may not be mentioned.

Are there any accessories that are required to get going? (cables and sd cards asside).

Thanks for any and all advice.

Delivery has been delayed, I surprise I guess.

Another question - is there a way to pfl or audition samples in the headphones, without them playing out the main mix?

I've read the manual and can see there's various routing options, however this wasn't something I could tell from waht I've read so far.

What comes out the headphones is what comes out the main outs. You could get a externals stereo headphone amp and Monitor Controller.

Thanks.

I think I maybe misunderstanding your answer, as I don't see how a headphone amp and monitor controller (for instance the mackie big knob) would give me a pfl mix, if everything coming out of the headphone out, is the same as what comes out of the master out. Does that mean the headphone mix can be diverted elsewhere then? Thanks

The headphones can't be patched elsewhere. The monitor gain knob on the back of the MPC ONE controls both monitor out and headphone out. There is no independent routing system for the headphones. So if you use a headphone/monitor controller. (Mackie Big Knob Studio) You'll have level control of your headphone levels and monitor levels.

Now if there is someway to do it internally, I have not figured it out. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

PFL is pre-fade listen... Charles is giving you the answer for how to have two different volumes for headphones and your master outputs.

My understanding of the One is that you're not going to be able to preview samples on the MPC One because the master and headphone outs are on the same audio path.

I guess the main thing is how to built tracks/sequences/songs and that whole structure.

I can highly recommend having a thorough look at the manual, before it even arrives. The link is in my signature

Great, thanks for the clarification.

It's not a deal breaker, as I'll be able to cue/ via the octatrack. Cheers!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting my head around the structuring of songs, and the different work flow.

I have downloaded the manual, and was planning to print it at work but then the apocalypse arrived so am having to read via the phone!

Thanks. That's good to know, regarding the audio path being the same. It'll stop me from keeping my fingers crossed for future updates.

As I've said itt I can pfl via the OT, so it's not a massive issue for me, however it does still mean taking two boxes to a gig. Cheers!

Luckily your a patient fellow

 nice.

I've had an email today, saying I'm getting an email next week, to update me on the delivery date.

It's like an announcement about an announcement...
