Installing Expansion: "Project Failed to Load"

I'm at my wits end, but long story short, the free expansions I found through this forum are refusing to install on my MPC Essentials. I've tried a few different ones, they all produce the same in-program prompt of "MPC project failed to load" and then the file path. I'm on a brand new PC, hardware is not an issue. Any suggestions?

Drag the XPN into the (open) main window of the software, i.e. direct to the grid, don't double click the XPN, don't try loading it from the browser. However, modern expansions are not guaranteed to work in MPC Essentials, it's very old software and no longer officially maintained by Akai.
