I want to contol an sh-32 via a midi keyboard connected to the 2000XL. How do I set the MPC to recieve what I play on the keyboard? I'm guessing its fairly simple to record and cut a loop from this point? This thing is barely out of the box as you're probably guessing. Just put the memory in minutes ago.

Once I have this figured how do I use the pads for beats and samples? Will I have to stop the pads from triggering the SH-32?

Thanks for any help.

theres been lots of midi posts lately. search thru those to get more information but the basic midi setup is this:

MPC midi out -> keyboard midi in
keyboard midi out -> mpc midi in

good luck

My keyboard doesn't have midi in. I have keyboard midi out to midi in of the MPC then midi out to sh-32.

The keyboard is just a controller.

Okay so I got the keyboard running the sh32 but the MPC's pads are sounding the synth also while all I want the pads to sound is my kit samples. How do I keep them seperate?

are your kits on the sh32 or are they loaded up on the mpc?

if they are on the sh32 you'll have to match the channel on the mpc with the channel on the sh32. scroll down to where it says DRUM:OFF. change that to the channel your working on the sh32.

example: if im on midi channel 3 on my keyboard i would change DRUM:OFF to MIDI:3a

get it? they have to match.

what your probably doing is selecting DRUM:1a or something like that. If you only want to play samples that are on the mpc it has to remain on DRUM:OFF

am I making sense? i THINK this is your problem. thats what I got from your question. let me know, peace

Kits and samples are on the mpc, the sh32 im just using as a synth for bass lines and what not.

The problem is when I press the pads I can hear my kit samples but the synth is sounding too. How can I set it so that the pads only play samples and the keyboard only plays the synth module?

Thanks for the help man.

for only mpc samples:
DRUM:OFF

for your synth:
MIDI:1a

of course you have 16 different midi channels to choose from so MIDI:1a can range from 1-16a

Nope. The pads are still sounding the synth as well as the samples.

I have it set:

S : DRUM 1 : 1A Device01

Even when I record and play back a beat as soon as I switch the MIDI channel on the keyboard the synth starts to play because of what the pads are doing.

well the xl is slightly different then the 2000

man there gotta be a way to turn DRUM 1 : to off

because that DRUM 1 : 1A is calling the midi channel 1 and thats why the synth is on top of the sample. ill be honest, im using the 2000 but there's no really HUGE differences when it comes to midi.

are you able to turn anything in that section to off??

In the DRUM field you can select:

MIDI DRUM1 DRUM2 DRUM3 DRUM4

And in the MIDI device field you can select:

OFF - 1A-16A - 1B-16B

??

so what your saying is you can select DRUM 1 : then in the field next to it you can select OFF so it says DRUM 1 : OFF right?

if so, thats what I been telling you to do.

in the Drum field select DRUM1 and in the midi field select OFF

so it reads: DRUM 1 : OFF

dosnt it let you do that?

Yeah that's all good but how do I get the synth to play from the keyboard now? As soon as I select a midi channel the pads start to play the synth.

Chapter 7: Creating and Editing Programs: pg 127

"pads to internal sound" That's the ONLY thing I could find so far.
I'm at work so the manual is the only thing I got to go off of right now.

i dont get that question. ???

if you want to play the synth you need to select MIDI : then the midi channel you want to use.

If you want to use samples it needs to be on DRUM : OFF

if your still havin problems im not sure what to say. lamp gave ya the manual pages, i suggest checkin that out.

im exhausted :(

Got it! I need to select a new track! You can't have two different settings on the same track.

Well it is my first day. Thanks for the help guys.
