Midi keyboard/controller question

Very noobish questions here...

1. How does using auto chromatic assignment (64 tones) work with a midi keyboard with less than 64 keys?

2. Would there be any latentcy when hitting the keys on a midi keyboard to trigger samples in my xl?

1. The midi keyboard will have octave +/- buttons so you can use all the keys necessary.

2. Technicaly yes but you won't notice it.
