Hi, brand new to this. I notice im having to hit keys hard

Hello, I am just watching videos and reading instructions for the AKAI MPK MINI MKII. I am playing it presonus studio one 4 DAW. Regardless of instrument selected I feel unable to play anything smoothly. like if you wanted to roll from one key to another or even sometimes hard strokes get a muted sound randomly or weaker or completely silent. Its like its bit a mute note frequently unless i press down hard and slow down playing. Thank you much
