sample space/ storage issues PLEASE HELP

i just upgraded from a 2000 to an XL, and i can't seem to sample more than 12 or so seconds to my machine.

i take one sample about 10 seconds long, and then try to go for another, and it will only allow me a sample length of 1.7 seconds. is there a setting i need to change?

i have a zip-drive in my machine, and i'm wondering if my problem has something to do with formatting.

anybody able to help me?

Sampling is done to RAM, not to the zip disc. The disc is only used for saving and loading samples .Stock RAM on the MPC2000xl is only 2MB To see how much time you have go to your sample screen and it will tell you how many seconds you can sample. 32 MB allows 182.6 seconds on stereo so 2 mb would be..... 11.4 so yep you need more RAM. You can also sample mono to give you twice as much time. 10 seconds is a really long sample ( for me). Your drum hits will take up a lot less memory.

good lookin out on the replies.... i actually don't have the manual, but i know that my 2000 had a ton more space for samples, and i'd save my work to the disk... does that mean that my 2000 had more on-board ram, or is there some setting that i haven't adjusted? can i upgrade my onboard ram, or is that a difficult task?

Its just as easy as a computer. Check ebay for the ram. I think its like $20 for two 16 mb chips. Do a search on here about upgrading the ram. PEace
