Triggering 2 different patches on the same external synth?

Hey everyone. First time poster and new MPC Live 2 user. I've hot a snag in my production. I'm trying to trigger two different patches on my xp30 and can't seem to do it. Say on track 001 I want record the rythm track. I record the synth notes and use program change to select patch 037, syn calliope, within midi program 001. Them on track 002 I want to lay down a lead melody. So I create a new midi program (002) in that track and select patch 124 with the program change feature for my lead sound. Now when I do that it also changes the patch number on track 001 which is is set to midi program 001. It also seems to be selecting the wrong program as soon as I hit play start for both of these tracks. What am I missing? I've tried reading the manual but it's 500 pages and can't find what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help!

Ahh so I have to set a different midi channel in MPC for each patch? Can I set the external synth to multiple midi channels? Is this multi timbral mode?

That great for my multi timbral xp30 but what about my hydrasynth explorer that is mono timbral? My idea was to just record each sequence to a different audio track, say bass lead, synth melody and pad with different patches to their own audio tracks. How do I then link these audio tracks together and not the midi sequence in song mode? Thanks so much for you help lamp dog!

Alright. I'm getting somewhere now. The looper and drum program are my friends. I used the looper to create a loop of said isolated audio track and then assigned it to a pad in a new drum program on a new track. Use midi record to place that note within the new track and boom! it's there!
