loosing programs

after chopping and assigning a sample to pads on my xl i added one shots on to pads as well. i then hooked up my midi controller to play a bass line. the bass line played on the midi controller but, then i accidentally hit one of the pads and the sounds from the controller wound up on every pad! making me loose everything i had on the previous pads(chopped samples and one shots...)
I then went into trim and it showed the one shots and chopped samples were there being read and heard in trim. but back in the main screen i couldn't retrieve them. I also lost a sequence, it was playing but i couldn't hear it!I eventually had to turn off the xl and start over! i know this might sound jumbled im trying to explain it bit by bit. if anyone knows why this is happening or knows a resolution or what i am doing wrong, please help me out! thanks, 1vh

u could have reprogrammed your assigments by going into the machine using shift and 6 (I beleive)
