i read that tha 1k lacks zoneing features, my question is what is zoneing? specificly on the mpc 2k, 2kxl and possibly the 1k,what does it do & since tha 1k does not fully support this, can i do zoneing on sound forge 5 or wavelab 4, thanks......i read that the 1k will be addressing this problem in a software update sometime this year, is this true?

Zoning is mostly reffered to as chopping.

You take a sample and cut it into multiple peices so you can do more with it. Timestretch it, play it back a different way, rearrange it, whatever you can think of. I'm not sure about if the software you mentioned can do it cause I don't mess with software just yet. Can't confirm the 1000 update either.

But that's zoning/chopping.
