I'm new to this forum and pretty new to beat making as well...hopefully somebody on here can help me out. I have an I-Mac G5 hooked up to an M-Audio firewire midi interface...the firewire then connects to my Mpc 2000xl and my Asr-10...I saw a video on this forum and most of that really helped me out as far as connecting all my midi cables. My only concern is that I do not have a mixer and I'm wondering if that is why I do not hear sound? I was under the impression that with a computer and my m-audio there would be no need for a mixer. If I hopefully do not need a mixer, then why am I not hearing sound out of the keyboard? My studio monitors are connected thru the computer to the m-audio and I get sound out of that. Do I connect my wires in the back of the ASR into Main Out or Audio input... and from one of those which do I put into the m-audio...pretty confused HELP, thanks!

1. without mixer, mpc main audio outs to asr10 audio line in.
asr10 audio line out to MAC soundcard in.

2. with mixer, mpc main audio outs to mixer 1 and 2
asr10 audio outs to mixer 3 and 4, mixer outs to MAC.

3. Midi is data and not audio!

I tried explaining this in a new post but I am not sure if it was accurate or clear enough. Its very hard to explain without visually seeing... I do not know where my Mac sound card is...the only thing I see when I get into the computer is in midi setup and an Icon for my IAC Driver. I attempted to setup my midi virtually in the midi setup and connected my keyboard icon and drum machine icon to my M-audio 410 firewire icon on the computer. The IAC driver icon is dimmed and appears shadow like. The other icons are bright and I can click in them. I thought that the firewire would read the sound card some how, im very confused and have a lot to learn but right now i just want to set up my gear, please help!

sounds like ur having driver issues with your m-audio 410, From what i understand u want ur m-audio to be acting as your soundcard. I have a simlar set up

see if these video helps

I think that is best that ur asr/MPC audio to your mixer first, then into your m-audio soundcard. It gives u more flexabilitity
