Good Quality Bass?!

I don't want this to sound like another 'I wanna sound like him' post cos it's not like that at all!

I just feel like the only thing that lets my tracks down is the bass, or the lack of it! I've filtered sounds to get bass, I've sampled bass and used 16 levels with it. This is cool for a bit but I want it to be better!

I want to know where producers get really nice sounding bass from which doesn't sound like its just been filtered or straight sampled from an old record. People like Illmind, 9th Wonder and Oddisee.

I've done a search but not really found what I'm looking for.

16 levels wont give u a full range of tones....Either get a module or create multisample programs.

Or.....Look into Multisampled bass sample CDs

I really enjoy making beats and I'm alright at it, I just really don't understand the equipment and what they do! It sucks!

Read the manual....Look up subjects for more in depth understanding....

Modules vary....Jus depends what u want, and what u want it to be able to do. Visit Digital Village's website for a list of current modules in the market

Visit Sound on Sound's site for past & present reviews on modules.

When u think u know what your after, look into it again to make sure ur sure about it....Then try an get whatever you think u need to help enhance your music - Either brand new from a shop, or a listings site/ebay

To get the full out of of anything, its good to know as much as u can about it....

Novation Bass station aint a module but sick with bass (if you program it right)

From scratch I usually start with creating a sinewave in Sound Forge and modifying it by adding subtracting frequencies and other forms of waves, such as triangle, sawtooth, throw some modulation around and most of the time I get what I want, sometimes I don't but I'm still happy cause it's a learning experience AND I can say to myself I MADE that bass.

Aiight, I have sound forge but how do you just create a "Sine Wave?" Is there a an option on the task bar or something?

peace fam. what my self and kev brown do it is very simple. you take one bass note from an old record and you tune that one note to your samples. then cut the 16 levels( creating a full scale from one note) on that bass sound and find the notes that are in tune with your sample. then go head an freak a bass using the in-tune bass notes in 16 levels. also, the best thing to do is to listen to the bass lines of old funk, soul, and r&b records. listen to how in most black music the bass player plays behind the beat and how the notes slide. just try to imulate what your hearing. if your sampling bass from a record, play the bass how the bass player played on that record.

speaking of multisampled bass programs.....has anyone tried the ones on this site? i need me some good bass
