Peace yall, i tried to search under this, but didn't really find a thread that answers this question.

frequency..is this an element that makes the difference of your beats being loud( too loud in most cases) and having your beat Bang (or Bump in other words)

i ask that because i just recently put a track together using my mpc 2000xl and recorded into sonar (as audio) via audiophile 2496 usb. before using the mpc i using soundforge and emu mp7 for the drums. the one thing i notice is that drums from the mpc, even though they are not as Loud as the mp7, the rate of output on the sonar is the same. now correct if i'm wrong, to all my senior engineers and seasoned beat vets, but is that the case with frequency or am i just way off the mark here? Basically its all Physics!!!!

Frequency in terms of audible perception can be explained in 2 ways...but hasn't, in isolation, got much to do with 'Loudness'...thats taken care of by 'Amplitude'.

I'll try n keep it mad simple...

1)Frequency....measured in Hertz(Hz)...basically is a masurement of how fast sound actually travels thru Air...(Or oscillates).

The above link shows a picture of a Sine wave (The puresst form of sound...a 'Tone')

Imagine that from its begininng on the left to its end on the right was a period of 1 second...then within that 1 second, looking at the pictuce...there are 2 & a half 'CYCLES of the sine wave....so its Frequency is 2.5Hz....Way below what our human eaars can perceive....Which incidentally starts at approx 20 Hz (20 cycles per second).

This is toally independent of 'Loudnesss' or 'Amplitude'(To use its technical name)...which incidentally, in the picture from the above link whould be the 'Height & depth above & below the horizontal yellow line the wave goes. the higher & lower the wave above & below the line...the louder it will sound...

To our ears...Different frequencies are heard as what would be crudely called 'Notes'.

To again stress Ranges...the Note of A4 on a piano is classically given as 440Hz...If you played the note A3... the Frequency would be 220Hz...mathematically, u'll notice that If you go down the Keyboard by 1 'Octave' (12 Semitones), its equivalent to a halving of the frequency. And like wise the opposite is true...A5 would be a frequency of 880Hz!!!

As to the Levels of the Samples from your different bits of gear...the discrepency could be caused by any number of things...like poor signal path, Recording....or mismatching of balanced & unbalanced signals...but thats a whole new bag of trix right thurrrr!

Do a Google search on frequency & Amplitude...
