Sampling Drums

When sampling drums do you EQ the sample before it goes into your MPC or do you just sample it dry and leave it as is until mixdown? I'm just asking cuz in the Scratch Mag Dre said he EQs his drums before it goes into the MPC and then spends even more time EQing the drums during the mixdown. Is there a benefit to doing this? How many of you guys EQ before the sample hits the MPC?

I used to do that (EQ on my Rane TTM56) before sampling, but now that I got a mixer (Mackie 1604) I'll start to sample most things as they were intended to be heard, with the eq's more-or-less at 12 o'clock, and then eqing on the mackie (when I get it all hooked up ). IMO one advantage of this is having more possibilities and being able to totally change the eq on a sample at a latter stage if you want to. Whereas if you eq before sampling, and then you don't like it or want to change it, you have to go back and re-sample that sound.

better to do it on the post rather than the pre, however, dont be fooled about the DRE ting, cause when i have a kick or snr sounded right after messing with it, i process it as a new sound then have the MPC play that sound rather than playing it through normally. this way the track is closer to completion. thats why his shit always sounds good. tip get it to sound bad before u take it to be mixed, this way less work. problem? i it sounds shit in this mix u have to go back and start again and I'm sure DRE has had to do this many times.

it ok to EQ prior to sampling...I do it 90% of the time, but the thing is you need to be 100% postive that you're only taking out Freqs you definately dont need. ie low end on a HH, highs on a bass or kick, etc
