No computer - 1000 or 2000xl?

I haven´t been using computer´s in my music-making, and to be honest I would like keep it that way. Now I´m in serious need of a sampler and I´m seriously considering of getting an mpc. So the question is which one (mpc 1000 or 2000xl) goes better to old puritan like me. I´ve been going thru these pages, and it seems pc´s and mac´s are widely used with both, but the 1000 seems more like designed to be used with a computer. Does it do the work alone, or is the 2000xl the choice for me. The 1000´s bigger ram makes me wonder, but then again... Any experiences, what do you think?

2000xl no doubt.

You're right about the 1000 . If you don't want to use a computer get the 2000/xl . I wouldn't let the amount of ram the 1000 is capable of get in the way of your decision . I'd say 90% of people find 32MB (the 2000/xl's max) more than enough in most cases .
If its a sampler you're after don't get an mpc, get a sampler . MPC's are mainly sequencers. The mpc's sampler is alright, but nothing like a 'purpose built' sampler . But it sounds like you're just getting into this, so I don't think a sampler alone is what you're after . Not to sound condescending but I'm guessing you're probably just unclear about the terms, etc .
In any case, I'd highly recommend the 2000XL in your situation. Though it kind of speaks for itself .

I own both, the 1000 has a better ram load and more caps for storage. where as mpc2000XL will have you out spending dough on Zip drives, that will no doubt get corrupt, 8 outboard and effects, where as 1000 comes with this as standard. 6 outs mind u, but built in compression and EQ and effects.

I would go with the 1k. Too many people sleep on it. You don't have time stretch and zoning, but its still a solid machine. More programs, memory decent effects and eq. 6 outs, as soon as you get it you can mix and your song right in it.

And WDJ, thanks for the reply and sorry about the terms. Anyway, I guess what I want is my first sampler (yes), but also a sequencer that can make my samplers (that I will buy later) run. I´ve got now Korg emx-1, Korg ms-2000, Juno 106 and Yamaha sk115. Korg emx-1 is a sequencer, but there are so limited number of tracks and it`s midi-capabilities are quite poor comparing to any mpc. So there you go.

I use a computer with my 2kxl. But... if I had to do it all over again... I'd get the 1K... just becaues I use my pc for editing.
If Akai/Numark ever get off their @sses and make a usb port and remove that d@mn SCSI port for the 2Kxl, then I'd stay 2k fo life. But you know this won't happen... MAaaaaan!

I noticed how the description for teh XL specifically says ''sampler,drum machine sequencer etc..'' does the drum machine part apply to the 1000?
And isnt teh memory on the Xl expandable?

1. yes
2. the memory IS expandable, but only to 32MB

So for a begginer who has TONS of ideas the 1000 would be a good deal, I too want to eliminate teh computer from my music crating until its time to record mix and master a song.
