Help me organize my sounds please

My drum programs are realy big and disorganized.

What I need is a way to delete any sounds in a program not used in any sequence. Is this possible?

If not, is there a way I can move all of the drum sounds used in a sequence on to one pad bank?

Its hard to work diorganized. I would appreciate any answers to these questions as well as any tips on program organization.

go back a stage an make useful programs....Sounz like u loading sounz u dont need....U need to have a clean out then reorganise

Purge only deletes samples that are IN memory and are NOT assigned to a program.

I already discoverd the purge function and it is very useful.

Here is how I build my programs

PROGRAM1
Bank A and B All hi hats
Bank C All Snares
Bank D All Kicks

PROGRAM2 Samples

This way I have a huge variety of drum sounds that I can use to match a particular sample.

The problem is remembering which hi hat, snare etc. I used.

I keep a whole drum kit ( kick(s) snare(s) hats ...) in one bank, 'cause it's just more intuitive to tap out a rythm if you can access all the different sounds of the rythm in one go without the need to switch banks all the times.

The samples go in another program.

I have an mpc 4000, so the tecnique will be different, but the concept will be the same.

I created about 400 kits, all with the same layout.


4 kicks along the bottom row.
4 snare on second row
4 hi hat 2, opn, and 2 closed 3rd row
cybals, percusion on fourth row


Now, when I load up a bunch of my created programs, say 30 or so.

i program a drum track that I like with one kit on track one.

I then copy and paste the track across 4 or 5 tracks, and solo out each drum sound.


at this point, I cna then croll through different drum sounds for every track.


this can be very inspiring. it can transform, an ordinary drum track, into something inspiring.

That is just the way I do it. it was a lot of work, but it was worth it

I build kits..Some kits are very sound specific. So if im after a certain vibe/sound, i load the kit(s) for up for it. I tailor make my kits in a way that i understand, and that fits into with my work flow.

I also make kits that are like packs....Kicks....Snrs....Hats/shakers

the way to aviod the mess and duplication of sounds over various locations is to save all sounds/samples in the same place as the pgm files (Ie make folders) Good housekeeping will help u filter out the mess.

If you know your sounds, and know what u got and what u need at a certain time u aint gotta load up a million kits trying to find the perfect this to go with the perfect that.

Go thru your sounds and do a little spring cleaning an re-arranging. MPC editor is the way to go. Working via the PC is much less a bore than doing it via the mpc

kits sound like the way to go. I just feel limited if I only have 16 sounds to choose from. But if I standardize all my kits the same, I can then scroll through em. And if I know my sounds....

hmmmm... I guess I could have 4 similiar kits per program (Banks A-D)

Anyways, I got a lot of thinking and organizing to do
