Finding The Noise Amplitude Of A File In Sound Forge 7.0

wassup yall... i was wondering if anyone could help further explain this to me... i'm reading the manual, and in the manual [page 52] it states:

"To determine the noise amplitude of a file, run Statistics on a region of noisy silence."

- i guess it's the 'noisy silence' part that has me perplexed... any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks yall...

There is a thread around here where we are talking about mic recording in the crib. I can't remember the title but it address the noisy silence thing you are talking about. A few people and myself broke it down, it sound stupid but you should actually take a sample of silence via the mic, use that as a noise foot print in SF noise reduction, and noise reduction can find that noisy silence in your vocal file and almost completely remove it, of course you can tweak it to remove more or less of the noise.
