Zip drive and original drive

Zip drive and original drive

I just bought a mpc 2000xl on ebay it has a zip drive installed and the guy gave me the original 3.5 drive also. My question is I tried to install the old 3.5 drive in because I have a ton of tracks from back in the days on 3.5 and when I installed it the machine would not work. I then reinstalled the zip drive and it worked and reason why it works with one and not the other? unless 3.5 drive is no good but he sent it to me so I do not think it would be broken. ANY ADVICE????

i dont have the xl so i may be wrong but i dont think the floppy gets plugged in the same spot as the internal zip.

For floppy, u need correct ribbon cable. Did he give u that too? Zip & Floopy use different ribbon cables and go in different slots on the main board (Floppy using the smaller)

They both have the riibons connected to them. I put them both in correct just when I put original drive back in I get no power when zip is in i have power.

Check the floppy power cable.

Floppy connector and the ZIP power cable inside are different shapes.
