excuse my newbie question but i would just like a simple explanation of what the difference between a fairly simple MPC like the 1000 versus a Roland SP606 sampler. what makes an MPC an MPC is really what im trying to ask. thanks in advance.

First off, comparing the MPC to an SP-606 is like comparing a Honda to a Ferrari. What makes an MPC an MPC you ask? Well, I reccomend you go to your local guitar center/music store and try one out for your self. Then try the SP-606 and you will instantly know the difference. Personally, the only thing I found that I liked on the SP-606 was the effects processor.

By the way, the MPC is a full-out sampler (i.e. Full-Out Sampler = Sequencer, Sample editing, Eq, Effects, etc.).

an mpc is more then just a sampler. its more of a sequencer then a sampler.. imo

thx for the input. if someone were to buy an mpc for about 1000 or less is the mpc1000 a good way to go. i can buy a new one for about 750$. currently i have been playing around with my friends sp505 along with my tables (numark ttx's + ppd01mixer). i have a lot of green tagged vinyl ive been searching through and marking but i want to avoid using too much software for the rest of it. i really respect how rjd2 can run his entire sets on 2-4 turntables, and how restiform bodies is constantly collabing there 4 mpcs + keyboards drums etc to compose there amazing music live. i think Jel's beats are also amazing and hey he just used an old sp1200 so i guess it isn't always about your hardware. im not looking to make the 8-bit sounding lil jon beats on the radio. basically full out composition of vinyl etc.

that makes no sense to me. the sp1200 is nearly at the top of the hardware list...
i heard a comparison between the s950 and the sp1200..da/\/\n, the sp really does have that punch..
