i don't know how to hook up my roland xv-2020 sound module to my mpc 2000xl using midi.

basically, what i want to be able to do is access the sounds from my module and sample the sounds into my mpc so i'd be 'playing' piano chords and notes with the mpc pads as opposed to using a key board.

can someone fill me in on how to connect the mpc to my roland using midi cables as well as the 1/4" cables i have to connect to it as well.

also, where do i route the midi to actually HEAR the sounds?

well, your 1/4" cables from your module will be going into your mixer (assuming you have one) so you can hear what your doing.

to control the module with your mpc you want to use the handshake method.

mpc midi out -> module midi in
mpc midi in -> module midi out

also when doing like Smoove03 said you dont really need to sample the sounds... unless you feel that sampling gives your sounds character of course

yes, i do have a mixer so i will do that. do i need to route the midi on individual channels within the mpc? in other words, if i hook my rackmount to my mpc correctly, will i just be able to hit the pads and hear the sounds?
