and I also have a motif rack, so I want to be able to use that while using VST instruments at the same time via Sonar.

I really cant help you with Sonar, since I havent used any Cakewalk sequencers in over 7 years. But the only suggestion I can add is that you have all the MIDI channels correspond with one another. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Sonar will be able to help you. Otherwise, I can suggest checking Sonars web forums.

Sounds like MIDI Thru isn't turn on in the MPC. Check the manual for how turn this on for your MPC output into the PC; I don't remember the exact procedure.

1000 dont have Thru!

but the midi connections you have mentioned are correct. So it might be your Sonar or your Interface, make sure that they are configured to work through sonar properly, to what i remember sonar has a midi light thing in the system tray to show u midi activity.

just turn on midi soft thru on the mpc in mode midi/sync (pad 9)
but only for the input with the keyboard.

ok i got this working almost perfictly with one minor blemish i have motif connected through midi and 1k connected to midi in/out1 on my tascam 1084 now u set the midi on the track ur using corrsponding to the track on sonar and in the project menuand go to sync and set up the options transmit and choose correct midi devices and wallah u have recording notes into sonar and play back from the mpc as a drum module now actualy i have 2 problems now that i think of it 1.... when recording the sounds or the key that i am hitting are doubled (only when recording not in playback) 2. you can only use one progeam on all tracks i dunno why but i havent figured that one out yet

if you are using usb midi for your motif turn the midi thru off in the 1k settings it will cause a midi feedback loop
