How many use timing...?

How many of you guys use timing correct for your drums? I have tried countless times to figure it out and sometimes when I put it on 1/16 my drums sound very nice, exactly where they're supposed to be, other times, it sounds awful, like a 2 yr old was pushing the pads. I've searched, posted, read, and just when I think I have it figured out because of the fact it will work with one beat, I lay drums on a different sample, and they come out all flowers up. Lately I've been using either 1/32(3) or just turning it off. They dont sound exactly as I want them, but a lot better than before. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to share on this matter. i use it all the time. its great to me. people can argue all day about which is better on or off. but the fact is, it depends on the track. something might work better then the other depending on the situation. thats why they give you a choice to use one or the other.

i use it a lot. i think its a great tool. maybe turn quantize off for my hihats if i want an off feel for those, but usally my kicks and snares are recorded with timing on. someone here posted to tip to double the tempo and it works wonders when you know how to use it. adjust your swing and late/early settings and you can get it how you want. try doubling the tempo and recording using different timing till you hear what you like.

its not there to hurt your music and quantize hasnt been making my drums sound mechanical. maybe when i first started, but not recently.

try each timing.
get comfortable with step edit w/ individual notes.

You can also change the timing after recording. If you say that you did one on 1/16, and it sounded okay, but not exact, then highlight timing. After you have hilighted timing, push open window. It should show a screen that allows you to change timing or swing for your beat. If it is on 1/16, and you change it to 1/16 (3), and push do it, it will change the entire timing of your beat. This will help you determine which timing is right for that beat...
