Akai MPC2000XL MCD - Life Span

Hi there, I am new here and this is my first post. So, hello to all.

I haven't actually got an MPC yet and thought this maybe a good place to get advice over the life span of the 2000XLMCD. I have noticed that not all the UK resellers stock the 2000XLMCD, they tend to have the 1000 and then the 2500, which I presume is relatively new.

I'm planning on using it for percussion-based techno, like RND, Jeff Mills - detroit techno. As I understand it the 2000XLMCD would be perfect for this type of electronic music.

I have been using Cubase with outboard hardware for as long as time itself and thought that I should really upgrade to something more solid and reliable and also something I could take on the road.

My question...

Is the 2000XLMCD / 2000XL coming to the end of life as far as Akai support goes?
Is the 2500 the replacement? (I realise that it has more functions)

I don't really want to buy a piece of equipment that will be unsupported in a couple of years, albeit legacy support. I'd rather buy something that is a little newer as the 2000 has been around for a while now.

I guess it depends on what you mean by legacy support. Parts? Phone support? Is there anything else?

From my own experience, I had not had any problems with getting parts from either AP or a distributor for items as old as the the MPC60.

Phone support may be a different issue. At one time I was able to talk to people that had worked with the equipment for 10+ years. Some were bright. Some I taught a few tricks. Now that no one from the former US company works for Numark, don't expect anyone to care or know about anything but the latest products. As they mature and the current products become legacy this change and they may develop some 'attachment' (this is typical of any company). The UK office is gone.

Development on the DPS24, MPC4000 and Z -series has pretty much stopped. The DPS24 and MPC4000 still have production runs scheduled. The Z is getting blown out for cheap as we speak.

The only new procuct released in the past two years has been the MPC2500. The only OS updates in the past year have been a couple of maint releases. A couple of really nice projects got canned during the buyout.

i had the org. 2000xl for over 5 years and never had to buy any parts for it at all.although it NEVER left the house and i took really good care of it.i guess what im saying is you may not need parts for it.
