I just got my MPC 2500 a few weeks ago, and have been cranking out some drum beats. Pretty easy to use.

But I recently decided to load some instrument samples, and quite frankly, I don't get it. I'm very new to using samples, so I apologize for my ignorance.

But unlike drum kits, when you use an instrument sample, I press a pad and it plays the entire instrument sample, in some cases for 3 or 4 seconds. Unlike a keyboard (I have a Triton), when you let off of the pad, the instrument does not stop playing, nor can you hold down a pad and get a long, drawn out instrument sound. You get the same 3 or 4 second sample.

How in the hell do you use something like that? What functions do I need to read up on in the manual? How do you PLAY a performance with the pads if you cannot control how long the sound plays for?

I know the key is probably in manipulating the sample, but I just don't know where to begin reading. I don't get it at all.

Thank you. I just needed a few hints as to where to begin reading.
