Nope, you could probably benefit from a book on digital recording to get you started with the basics.

mixers are so you can hear more then one piece of gear at a time (to keep it in simple terms)

eq's are for equalizing stuff

multi track recorders are for recording your music.

Mixers: mix sounds together.

Equalizers: Equalize (boost/cut different sound ranges/frequencies)

Multi-Track recorders: record sounds to multiple tracks (keeping them seperate for effects (such as EQ))

Most mixers and multi-tracks have some sort of EQ, but not a great one.
