What would be a good MPC to start with?

As there is so many different kinds of MPC's...What would be a good one to start with?

cheapest....has majority of the features of the 2000xl plus it has a more modern design coming from an ease of use point of view, taking into account the CF card reader and USB connectivity, ability to install a hard drive etc

Im just really needing one to mess about on and try and make some stuff.

I did look into the 2000xl but Im worryed that if I buy one and I cant get my head round making beats I've wasted money...Know what I mean?

Again...any pointers would be a big help

i dont think this is something we can answer man.do you have a friend that has a drum machine now?maybe you could check his out.

Its not the machine that make the beats sound good, thats you.
Any MPC is good, till the day of today producers are using all types of MPC's and drum machines.. For example Madlib (www.stonesthrow.com) did ALOT of his beats on a SP-303, its a tiny machine and kinda looks like a toy, but you can make sick beats on that thing.

Its about you making the beats, finding the right sounds, making the drums.

I choose the MPC2000xl cause for me personally, it felt as the best choice. But i can do EXACTLY the same stuff on a MPC 1000.

You can't timestretch, reverse a sample and the Sequencer capacity has been cut from 300,000 to 100,000 on the mpc1000.

Thats just 3 things off the top of my head

Yeah, I was a bit slow there. Well at least I've got some new info now. I was all for 2000, Now I'm thinking 1000
