Recommendations on Which Model to Buy for a newbie

Hi,

One of things missing in mixing music has been a lack of a sampler/sequencer/drum machine.

Ever since I have seen what a MPC can do, I have been very intriqued by it. I would love to add beats through this unit in making my sets. But after reading the forums and checking various websites, I do not know which one to buy. As I am started brand new into the mpc world. I would like to hear from all of you which model is worth buying. I do not want to get a top notch one if I don't have any experience in it. Price makes a difference, but right now I am on a budget.

So which model is good for value for me to learn/practice on...

I do see 2000XL everywhere on the forums...is this one to go for? or could I go cheaper.

I would love to be able to transfer samples (make my own too) from the PC. USB or CF or SD preferred. These just make it easy to transfer on my end. But if limited on budget, as in my case...should I look for floppy centric units?

Also, I need to be able to create some beats/samples on my computers so that I can imported to the MPC...

Here is my equipment - I have 2 Denons Cd Turntables, One mixer which supports 6 Channels, and 2 Vinyl Turntables. I would love to add the mpc so i could add beats while mixing with other units.

I would appreciate any help on this matter. I am quite positive you guys/gals get asked lot about this. I did search the forums before posting this. I was unable to find a solution for my dilema in the matter.

Seeing as you went to some trouble to type that post, I won't abuse you. Others might not be so polite, so be warned.

If I were you I'd consider buying the MPC1000. For one, it would integrate alot better (than the 2KXL) with the PC you mentioned.

Try searching the forum for all kinds of info and knowledge that will make your decision alot easier and successful.

if u have intentions on using ur computer alongside the mpc, than i would have to agree with krux.
i dont use my computer for anything as fas as making beats go and i have the 2kxl. i love it. i hear the 1k isnt as fun to play with, but thats all speculation. ive never used it. try searching.

Then get a 1k.

FYI: i just started to scratch the surface of beatmaking, and i would highly recommend the 1k... it's not that expensive, and it works great with a computer... i use the 1k along with a few other computer programs... you can easily transfer files back and forth via a usb connection or using the cf card... the 'bluebox' program is great as well... the manual helps a lot, so be sure to read it over and over, and over... and if you're stuck with something or don't fully understand something, search the forums first THEN ask... (i've noticed that if you don't make any effort in helping yourself first - ain't nobody gonna help you)... i personally find the 1k to be one of the best investments i've made... if you do decide to bag the 1k, don't forget to update the O/S - the update is available on akai's site... hope that was of some help... enjoy and happy bangin'!!!

But boy I love my 2kxl

MPC1000 sounds like the machine for you

1000.....virtually the same as the MPC2000xl in terms of features (2XL has auto-chromatic or something apparently and can hold more events) but the 1000 has bigger memory capacity, is quicker editing samples and is more convenient to transfer stuff to and from.

Only thing is tham darn pads......but someone will come up with a fix for this soon im sure!
