Right heres the deal. I have a s950 akai and a mpc akai and a evolution midi keyboard that i tend to use with cubase
I want to use the akai mpc to trigger the drum sounds within the s950 and the evolution to trigger all other sounds as its a keyboard.
the s950 has a midi in out and thru, the mpc has a double in and a double out (midi) and the evolution has just an out (midi) how am i going to do this???

you may say rtfm but i again cant work out how to do this combination, perhaps i may have to forfit using the s950 for drums and sample into the mpc for drums only and use the s950 with the evolution/. if you can help please do!!!

Yesterday I pointed you towards page 11 in the manual it has a nice little drawing of how to connect a sound module (your akai s950 is nothing more than a fancy sound module that can record its own sounds (aka sampler)) and a keyboard to your MPC.

If your keyboard only has midi out then only connect the midi out of your keyboard to the MPC as once again is clearly shown on page 11 of the manual.

Have you actually already made any attempt to connect anything? What the result you got so far and what exactly have you tried? I am not a **** mind-reader am I? Stating that you don't understand the manual is not enough, we need more detailed information.

why not connect your keyboard out to the first mpc midi in and your s950 out to the second mpc midi in?

then when you select which midi port and channel you want to use, your keyboard will be on A and your s950 will be on B

So Robert Now we need to know what u did based on that diagram. You sure u read cause i mean its a drawing and its real simple to use. Just focus on the MIDI Connection on that digram.

Connect your Keyboard MIDI OUT to MIDI IN on S950.
S950 MIDI OUT to MPC MIDI IN.
MPC MIDI IN to PC MIDI OUT
MPC MIDI OUT to PC MIDI IN

Try that and let me know what happens.

Hi there, the reason why i was confused is because I do not have a midi thru on my keyboard, and the diagram has a keyboard with midi thru, what I was doing last night was sampling into the s950 to get 12 bit crunch, then record into the mpc, (for drums) and for keys just sample direct into s950 and use the midi k-board via cubase to control the s950, this may seem a little arse about tit! the chap with the hendrix logo has also pointed out another way with midi, I am going to try that out tonight! I am sorry if I seem a bit thick, I am using everything you advise, and it is much appreciated it really is.

this is how the s samplers work. they're like big sound modules basically. you can load and store sounds inside of it and save your programs and multis so you can pull them back up whenever you need to use them again.

If you were to plug your s950 into your first MPC MIDI IN, you will be able to pull sounds from it just like a module. So if your s950 is plugged into MPC MIDI IN A, your s950 will be on the "A" side. so when you wanna use sounds from it, change the track to MIDI:1-16a (this is just as an example)...

If you plug your keyboard into your second MPC MIDI IN, your keyboard will be on the "B" side. So when you wanna use it, just change the track to MIDI:1-16b and you can use your keyboard.

these were examples, but its similar to how i have my setup....hope that helps...

hey,. printed everyones suggestion, cant seem to get the mpc to send midi to the s950, have a midi lead runnin from the mpc to the s950, and vice versa cant seem to dump midi from the s950 to the mpc, have been into the controls on the mpc and see there is mtc and mc out and in, have tried each of those but not sending midi to s950 still, so as a compromise until i work out how to do it i have sampled into the s950 and re sampled into the mpc, obviously, stil looking to use the mpc as a midi seq and the s950 as the sampler as it has that 12 bit thing going on, oh well perhaps you may be able to shed light on my weary heads!!
