I can't figure this out...

Ok, So I just bought myself a M-Audio 1814 sound controller...
The thing is, it only has one midi I/O and I need Both my MPC2000XL and my Keyboard connected so i can use them both with protools...
How do i go about connecting both devices?
(I also have a mackie 1604VLZ pro, but I don't think that will do anything for me midi wise).

well you are probably going to need to get more outs for your Xl. Thats the only thing I can think of but then again I am a noob.

Two words:
MIDI Chain

If you have your MPC setup correctly all u have to do is connect the MPC up to it and it will snyc the mpc and keyboard. I do that with my gear. The MPC controls all my production gear. So it goes to the Roland VS-2000 and when i press PLAY + Record it records audio from the MPC and PK-6 in sync.

I would connect:

MPC and keyboard in a classic midi connection tts:
keyboard MIDI OUT --> MPC MIDI IN 1 (this will allow you to control the MPC from your keyboard which is hand when you want to play melodies)

If your keyboard is more thatn a master keyboard (it has its own sounds) then also make ollowing connections and settings:

MPC MIDI OUT --> KEYBOARD MIDI IN + on the KEYBOARD turn MIDI LOCAL OFF.

This will give you the possibility to sequence keyboard sounds from the mpc.

Now all the audio outputs of your mpc and keyboard (if your keyboard has adio outputs) go into the audio inputs of your soundcard. This will let you record all audio from your MPC and KEYBOARd in your computer.

In order to sync the computer up to the keyboard/MPC rig connect the midi out of your soundcard to the MPC MIDI INPUT 2.

In Protools set sync method to MTC MASTER and choose a frame length (see protools manual on how to do this) on the MPC in the MIDI sync menu set your sync method on MIDI INPUT 2 TO MTC and make sure you set the same FRAME length as you set in protools.

Now If you want to record a song of your mpc onto your computer put your MPC in song mode on the Computer press record and the moment you press play in protools the MPC will start playing automatically in sync with your computer (optionally sequencing the sounds of your keyboard if your song uses any of the keyboard sounds.)
