Akai CDs

Hello,

Can someone pls tell me if there is a way to get samples from AKAI CDs (like Vocal Planet) to my MPC2500 (no CD Drive). I do have a computer with CD Drive and I was lookin for some solution to get those samples on CF card.

I think that the new OS has support of certain old 2000XL files. Not sure which - check the latest manual addemedum from Akaipro web site.

You may be able to import them directly now, otherwise try using a tool called blue box or another tool called chicken systems translator.


Or even more simply, is to copy them to your PC harddisk, them USB them across to you MPC2500.

Ok, maybe its just me but..how?

My PC doesn not even read AKAI CDs! I have to use a program like CDXtract so I can read the cd. So how can i get them to my MPC? The only way I know is to extract them to .wav and than copy them. Is there any other option?

Awave also reads Akai CD's. You might be able to save samples using the demo. At $139 its a bit pricey (same price as CDxtract).

If you use Linux then there seems to be some freeware alternatives.

If the 2500 reads them... then why not just put the cd in your pc drive.. then extract them to your desktop.. then usb them directly into the 2500?


You computer doesnt need to be able to read the files for it to store them...

The 2500 does not read them...it reads 2000XL files, not "Akai" format files. That's two different things.

Try a program called Akaidisk, it's free. Mesa can convert Akai <-> WAV as well, but only runs under Windows 98. You can get it from the Akai homepage. Don't know if those work with CD drives however.

propellerhead also do a program that converts akai cds to refills, it's a free download to anyone who owns reason. as for how to get the refils onto the 2500, i believe there's also a non-propellerhead endorsed program that extract wavs or maybe mpc programs from refills, it's been mentioned on this forum befroe, try searching for it.
