Im ok with sampling individual sounds and the odd bass line but I struggle to know what to do regarding the melody as its more complex, I know there is no set rules in hip hop but i dont know what to do and would like some inspiration please as to ideas of elements I could sample to go over the drums and the bass.

you could sample piano solos , horns , guitar solos, classical guitar, synth breaks on techno records, you could sample a loop then lay down some of your own midi sounds

find any instrument that's playing a solo (ideally without too much bass/drums in the background)... take a couple of bars of that and chop it up and put it on pads.

then make your own melody by playing the pads back in a different order.

you dont have to chop out each note separately.. leave a couple strung together here and there

also use realtime pitch slides for scratch type effects

yes.. i have a 1k, keep in mind...

1. make at least two copies of your sample: fwd and reverse
2. put on pads in the same program

3. open the slider screen, set to realtime/tune, maximum range

4. -leave it in slider screen mode-, and work that slider like a m-f while you bang on the two pads :) :) use the 'reset' button once in awhile

of course, you don't have to limit it to 2 samples... if you take different segments onto different pads, you can emulate a lot of what vinyl scratching could do... different sound but still cool.

for the advanced, put the other slider on 'filter cutoff' (of course filters must be set).. things will get weirder then, and confusing :)
