Using Sample disks from the likes of Kanye, neptunes etc

Ive bought a load of sample discs from the likes of heatmakers, neptunes, kanye, dre etc, Do you think top producers in the game use these discs etc, or do u think they just sample from origional records, also is it okay to use these sounds for your beats, and do u have to clear these if you sold the beat

They used the sounds b/c they are their sounds. People just sampled from songs that they used the sounds in. Yes u can use them for making beats. Also if u tweak your sh*t u should be good to go.

When you just starting off, these are great because it helps you (somewhat) achieve a certain sound that your seeking. As you develop, your going to want YOUR sound. These disks that your buying are not really drum sounds from the artist.. they are, but their not. What I mean is that Kanye didn't make a drum disk and put it out for you to purchase, they are no different than you taking your favorite cd and sampling the drum sounds, but in most cases, these sounds are pre-sets in your favorite keyboard. Trust me, heatmakers ain't going to any length to create some original sound. Their on some "select a kit and make a beat in 10 minutes kinda schyt." No magic in that. Now if your buying a Dilla kit that is REALLY sampled from his wax/cd's, your gonna get something real special, but beware, because the creators know that certain producers have nice sounds, so they simply re-name an old wack kit and put "Madlib drum sounds" on the cover because they know folks will buy it.
Learn to chop samples, and don't be afraid to normalize. You probably got enough cd's at home to make 100 drum kits tonight, and it's free!

Some of the best sounds I have are the drums and claps that I created by layering sampled sounds and then messing with their EQ and other settings. And actually, its kind of fun.

No harm in using these disks at all, at least you'll get a set of decent samples to play with

i bought a couple that were supposed to be kanye's and neptunes drum samples, but they werent even close..

they were just presets from some keyboard or something..

face it dude, they only know of two synth buttons: 'preset +1' and 'preset -1'.

what about the sample CD's on Ebay, that say kanye west samples ect, are they any good?

i think so. my advice: steer clear of sample cds. if you can't make your own, you shouldn't own a sampler, only a ROMpler like a fantom or motif. those are the rules. m'kay?

well i was going to sample 50's and 60's vinyl records.... is there a rule tht says i cant do tht?

no, i'm saying that buying pre sampled, chopped, organised cds removes the hard work and degree of choice you have when sampling from vinyl, which i believe is integral to the whole sampling process. you may disagree though.
