heavy handed on the decks

I have put some acoustic foam under the decks which has eliminated any noise if I bask the desk or other equiptment on the table, however when I scratch it makes a hell of a racket, what could I do to eliminate this? just touching the record or tapping the deck makes loud bangin noises which I dont want in my samples, please advise

Turn your bass down a bit on your mixer.

What decks have you got?

I somethimes get this on my Stantons, then other times i dont. strange.

they on a solid surface? is the platter on tight? is the needle sitting nicely?

you dont really need to be pressing hard on the deck, just enough to grip the record will do

you could also try keeping your hand on the record all the time (when scratching) rather than taking it off to let the sound play through

maybe you should get them looked at if its making real loud noise

No 1 question... Are you using a scratch pad under the record?

got a gemini tt02 torque is pretty good but a bit plastic for my liking, ok for sampling off.

got the deck ontop of my sampler and in between the deck and the sampler I have some acoustic foam which takes 90% of the problem away, but when I touch the record to scratch or what ever it sounds like a bomb I shall try and work on my technique!

as in a rubber pad? no, just the slip mat! bidding on a set of rubbers on fleabay, 20p so far :S

If it's jumping when you're cutting make sure you have you're carts set up right for your table. Also, try to be as light as you can.

cheers Big, it aint jumpin, just sounds very boomy when I slam my mits on the record, gonna try and cut the bass a bit, shame my vestax mixer aint got any push button cuts.

if you look at your deck with a record on it, and no needle, and then you press lightly on one side, does the other side raise up a little? if so, the spindle may be loose, or there could be something under the record in the middle causing the record to tilt slightly. bear in mind it only needs to move part of a millimeter to cause a 'boom'.

cheers, ive got the turntable sitting on acoustic foam which has taken 70% of the problem away, (as long as I keep my hands away) its ok, originally it would pick up any movement in the room as a low boom, vibrating up the desk but not anymore, i think it may be cos its a little plastic- i may invest in a set of 1200's which brings me to the point of the rubber mat, do I put the felt pad on over the rubber or just the rubber mat? and what is the difference between the 1200 and 1210, cos alot of you guys tend to use 1200's.

do you think if I got a rubber slip mat on my deck it would take the booms out when I touch the arm or record?
