cut off sounds on the mpc2kxl

fam,

how do i cut off sounds on the mpc2k xl so that when i play/hit other pads with samples, the sounds/samples don't overlap?

if the sounds/samples on the other pads are within the same program, turn it (the program) from poly to mono. if they are in different programs, use mute groups. ( bit iffy on that last one on the 2kxl.)
