Best software for raising pitch of a sample???!!????

Ive been searching around and have tried quite a few programs to raise the pitch of a vocal sample but retain the tempo. all the programs ive tried so far are wack, they raise the pitch but the quality is all glitchy and unbearable. what do the pros use for this process?? ala kanye and the heatmakers for example?

Timestretching will do that.

There was a thread about this not too long ago. I think the conclusion was that you can only timestretch so much before you get that glitching effect, regardless of what gear you use.

nah i refuse to belive that ther is NO WAY that it can be done. How do you explain how perfect these professional producers do it ?? check nearly every kanye song , every heatmakers joint, thers examples of perfectly time stretched vocal samples. And i know some producers will often get someone to re-do the vocal sample , that way they can mess with the vocal any way they like,, but i still think there must be something out ther that can time stretch perfectly, perhaps some piece of hardware..

Which songs are you talking about from Kanye? I saw a video where he says he just pitches a lot of his vocals up because the originals are too slow for a hip hop record.

There are some stretchers better than others. The MPC doesn't do that great a job of it in my opinion. Serato Pitch n Time is supposed to be one of the best but it's expensive.

Refuse all you want, that's one of the laws of nature.

Anything other than 10-15% up or down timestretching WILL cause unnaturalness. Some programs can stretch smoothly up to 20% but STILL nothing is perfect and ALL out of bound stretches will bear some unnaturalness.

Also, SKILL when timestretching helps alot too. Knowing your boundaries, capabilities and limitations is a factor.

Do a websearch for deepsound time stretch calculator and get busy with your mathematics.

i used to use a demo from www.mixvibes.com. they had a media player with a pretty good time stretch (better than anyone ive ever used b4), but than my computer died and i lost it. they have since updated there media player--i didnt like the way it looked so i just havent used it yet.
but check itout. i think the software costs like $20 or something.

Well for the record, a lot of Kanye and Just Blaze tracks were replayed by Ken Lewis....which explains the clarity in what you think are the original samples being used in their tracks.

Right, and the best about it is that it lets you alter pitch, speed and formant of your samples in realtime while they are playing!

I don´t know nohing comparable to this unit yet, but maybe there is a software or a newer unit that is able of similar performances.

well ableton live can do pitch and time in real time, but not formant as far as i'm aware.

what about soundforge?

not sure about doing it in real time, but almost all modern wave editors can do pitch shift/time stretch.

with ableton live 5 you have got the new complex time stretch mode...and it works a charme...with REALLY little artifacts...i think is the best timestretcher there....and it is superfast to use too...
