Zip

My MPC has a internal zip, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a zip for my computer then I can swap files without losing quality, would they be compatable or does the akai have its own set language. ie is it wav aif or what? Cheers

Please do a search, this has been answered many times before.

I have found "You'll need two ZIP drives.
One SCSI to hook up to your MPC and One USB to hook up to your G4.
And since it has been asked before, no you CAN'T hook them up in the same chain in any way. You have to put files on the ZIP from the g4 and put the disk in the MPC ZIP. I suggest having a transfer ZIP that only goes from g4 to MPC and an MPC-only zip that you save all your MPC SEQ, SND, APS and ALL files on.

What I REALLY suggest and others wil back me up here, is skipping over the ZIP and getting a SCSI CF card reader and a USB CF card reader. There is a million forum postings about it if you search.
If it's a Classic and not XL MPC2k getting an internal CF reader or ZIP is not impossible bit it is more expensive that the the same mod on an XL.

I would mate but my MPC has a 100 zip, I take it they would not be compatable,. I guess when It comes to the crunch, I can save a file then try to open it in cubase and see what file it is, probably aif or wav, but I dont know unless im either told or see for myself,. if the two are compatable then yes I will buy!

2kxl samples to snd, but it can also read wav. i don't have a 2kxl, yet i found this out! i think 100zip disks are usable in 250s, but i may be wrong. you're better off just getting an mcd drive mate.

Again, like the result for your search said, get the card reader. Zip Disks are notoriously evil, and only seem to crash when they're chock-full of un-backed-up stuff.

Getting an internal card reader will cost less than an external, even when you add in the cost of the mod.

As far as sample types, your MPC can read either .WAVs or .SNDs, but most of the samples you will get on/from your computer will be .WAV, so if you are going to be transferring files back and forth, saving them as WAVs will help you out a lot. If you save a .WAV on your computer to use on your MPC, you need to save it as a PCM WAV, 16-bit sample.

But for real, get the card reader, no one I know of hasn't been 2,000,000% happier with the card reader VS. Zip drive.

BTW, you don't need to get an external Card reader/Zip drive for your computer, I got an internal version of both in my tower, and internal drives have a LOT faster access time.
