if i wanted to synthesize my own sounds, what is the best equipment i should use?

basically, how do those commercial producers like lil john find/make those sounds?

I guess they use synthesizers...

There's more kinds of synthesis than this particular one, just feed Google with "FM synthesis" or "additive synthesis". Now the basic waveforms can be generated with any decent sound editor program. And if you have some gear that has Filters, Envelope generators, and perhaps layering and tuning capabilties, you can program it to be your own synth, basically.

The Akai S-series samplers, at least the newer ones, have all these. That's why they have the reputation of being very "synth-like". But of course you can do all that with software as well.

i looked up the korg machines and they could synthesize...

like the korg triton studio...you just play the keys and then choose how you want to make the sound change (like robotic or something)...you can also use a mic and change your voice around...

BUT i aint got the gouda for that ****...anyone know anything cheaper where i can synthesize samples that i chopped from an mpc...

i got a cheap ass keyboard which has limited sounds in it...i was wondering if there was something i could buy to expand the amount of sounds i could make...

FM synthesis is great form making drumssounds but it's pretty complex to program.
A modular subtractive synth is also good for building sounds from just waveforms.
maybe the easiest way for you is to get some VST synths and vocoders to mess around with

Microkorg is a cheap but very nice hardware synth.
