Chops Help Please

Hey there, I have started chopping lead sounds, I am new as hell to this and it has taken me a while to get to grips with the beat.

I have been sampling jazz stuff looking for piano and trumpet parts to sample, my friend says to sample a loop and set the beat round that, I have been told by another to chop each individual notes and compose my own, and what I have been doing is chopping the part with say 2-3 notes in any given sample, I find then I have a structure to work with.

Have you any tips to help me move past this point apart from "blind" practice, as Id like to know what and how to practice.

Nope wanna learn what to practice, I could sit in a field for 2 years, that wouldnt make me a COW. HA HA.

Right about now, you seem like that cow (Robert the guy) sitting in a wide open field, looking down at the nice green grass (internet) wondering "what should I eat it (samples everywhere on the internet)?"

Now I could walk over, pull up some grass and feed it to you but you'd STILL have to eat it on your own. I can't tell you HOW to chew it, you just have to chew it and see for yourself what it's about. Try different grass and see how it tastes (if, cows have tastes buds, I've never asked one).

So try that and see if you like it. Keep an open mind and give it an honest try.

Good, so you still need to try the others and see if you like it or not.

Your unique techniques and unique feel good practices come from experience and more practice. No matter WHAT anyone tells you.

I think Robert just has off days, cause sometimes Rob will ask a DUM azz question then the next day it will be something that will make you really think, then the thrid day he comes with CHEESE and your left thinkin "huh?" "What has gotten into Robert?"

I think Robert KNOWS where the grass is and where he wants to go but is still trying to figure out HOW to get around some potholes in his lawn.

what everyone's trying to tell you, is that it's stupid to decide if your gonna be a looper or a chopper. producers have to be able to do both. when you use a sample you might think, this one I'm gonna loop, this one I'm gonna chop or hmmm, I'm not sure. with more experience those things comes naturally. and don't think that 8 chops is always the best or something like that, keeping an open mind on my working process has taught me alot, i haven't used the same process for any of my beats, i always do something special with the beat or sampling material. keep an open mind is the word for being a good producer and finding a style (that will MAKE YOU MILLIONS, HAHAHA )
