ASR-10 USERS

does anyone know if its possible to put an compactflash reader into your asr-10 like in the mpc 2000 xl ? i read somewhere about i think these laptop pc cards that you can connect on your asr's scsi port. can anybody confirm this or drop a link?

In most cases no. But i believe scsiforsamplers.com sells this hard drive unit that also has a CF reader built into it. They state that this is compatible with the ASR.

I love the ASR but this is where its age is shown the most. I can't work with the newer less bulky, high capacity storage mediums.

Damn, I do even see that unit up there anymore. You may want to send them an email to see if they can do anything for you.

If it is anything that would make me move away from the ASR, it would be they storage medium issue.

I am thinking of trying to pick up a asr , do you guys feel its a worthy tool next to the mpc? All the things i read make me want to at least give one a try but stores dont really have that hands on setup for one to try sampling and chopping on it. I have seen some rack asr's for sale , if you guys could do it again would you get the rack or the keyboard version. I have a radium controller , how are the actuall keys on the asr keyboard version?

If you're a sample head, the ASR/MPC combo may be one of the BEST, if not the BEST.

If I could do it again, I'd get the purple screen ASR-10. The rack is cool but when u OWN a ASR-10 board, it's like being in the presence of a classic LOL. Sounds corny but that's real talk. There wasn't nothing like walking in the room and seeing that board on the table ready to get to work.

The keys also feel wonderful.

The problem with the ASR is, as far as sampling, you can do it 100x easier on software and on an MPC. I know the ASR purists probably find no problem with chopping on the ASR, but it's definintely something that could take some getting used to if you're used to visual editing and samplers than let u chop in many zones at one time.

I tried using my external SCSI compact flash unit with the ASR-10 and ASR-X and it was a no go. I could get it to read on the ASR-X but I couldnt get it to format. Ensoniq gear and SCSI can be a painful experience in general. I wouldnt try fitting and internal compact flash reader coz I seriously doubt it'd work.

I don't have my ASR-X anymore but Ive kept my ASR-10 rack coz I love the sound of it and in my opinion its the best thing to use sound-wise when sampling from vinyl.

what if you have a 2000(xl),3000 or 4000 ? can you connect your ASR via scsi and record the samples with the asr and store them in the mpc?

You cant connect them together via SCSI

so prolly the best solution is recording my asr samples immediatly to my pc on 96 khz ?
but what if i load these in my mpc... will it loose its sound?

i disagree......

u spend more time listening and less looking, not to mention the params copy saves hella disk space.......

Recording 44 and 22KHZ sounds at 96K is a total waste of time.
