hooking up a roland 303 to mpc 2000xl

Hello

I'm trying to record/overdub on the mpc what I play on the 303.

When I connect the two together - the pads play sounds from the 303 but I want to play the sounds on the 303 and sequence on the mpc.

Where am I going wrong? When I hit the pads I can see a black square on the MIDI output monitor but nothing appears on the MIDI input monitor when I play the keys on the 303?

sounds like you have your midi cables bassackwards

MPC MIDI out >>> 303 MIDI in
MPC MIDI in >>> 303 MIDI out

this will make the MPC the main sequencer and should be able to trigger
your 303 ...

maybe .. i dunno .. im new here

yo - cables definitely correct - I reckon it's something to do with the MIDI input cos it's not registering on the mpc.

btw sorry for posting in 2 forums - I really want to get this sorted and I don't have too much time.

You also have to make sure the MPC is sending on the right MIDI channel.

You have to check the 303 on which channel(s) it receives MIDI and set that on the MPC's active track (lower right corner). A01 for example means MIDI output A, channel 1.
