Help with 16 levels

ok im kinda new to this mpc thing.. i gotta mpc 1000..
and ive been working with the 16 levels.. and i was wondering how u change the pitch .. without slowing down the sample or speeding it... is there a way to do this...
everytime i try and play the sample a note down or up.. it slows or speeds it up... please help .. thanks

not really.
you could time stretch, but if you timestetch past 110% it starts to sound like sh!t.
or you could chop sounds to expand or compact them.
