Setup Advice option #2

I have an S900 sampler, so the disk drive doesn't work so I was thinking:

Sample in S900, dump samples via rs port onto computer, bang out beats with an mpd16 and a software sequencer.

Will this work and what's a good cheap software sequencer (other than fruity, I've tried it and want something else)?

whats the point of going through all that trouble sampling with the s900, turning the knob changing numbers to trip etc then just sticking it on a computer? You might as well sample right into the computer at a lower sample/bit rate

Why not get the disk drive fixed and use Cubase for sequencing?
