MPC 1000- $600
Sound module/Keyboard(Roland xv or jv series rack w/midi controller)- $300-350
Decent pair of Monitors( bx5 or rp5)- $300-350 NEW,NEW!!
Since you already dj I assume that you already have a turntable!!

That should get you started!! If you was to look on ebay, you could probaly get all these items for under $1200.00 total. But I wouldnt recommend getting monitors off ebay.

It really all depend on what route you want to go Software or Hardware. I prefer hardware(hand on), but I know a lot of people who prefer software.
Research, research,Research!! You get what you pay for!!!

Yes u could get by with just using an MPC1000. You gonna be more sampled based or composing? That would play a big role in determining if u need those extra sounds or other various gear. You can get mpcs for the low on Ebay, instrument exchange, craigslist, ect.. Some in new condition and some in used condition. The ones u are seeing for 1000 are more than likely NEW ones from stores such as Musician Friends, Samash, ect..
