RE: Getting My MPC 1000 to Play My Triton LE sounds

Hey all...

Once again I am going to ask another Midi question. i have been through the forum looking at different links on the subject and to no avail... I can't get my trition to play it's sounds. Now I have been able to get the Trition to play my MPC 1000 sounds... but I want vice versa. i feel I am close and I just may have done something wrong a setting or something... so help if you can. I have also broken down my screen set-ups for any other newbie that may come through later. Here we go...


First: My midi cables are connected to the Triton LE and the MPC 1000. Triton midi out into the MPC 1000 midi in. MPC 1000 midi out A to Triton midi in.

Second: On my Triton LE the global screen looks like this:

Midi Channel:01
Note Receive:all
Midi Clock:Internal
Conversion Position:PreMIDI
Local Control On: Click this Off right???


Third: My MPC 1000's screen looks like this:

I go to Mode>Pad9(Midi/Sync)
Under Midi(F1)
Active Track Receive Channel: All
Soft Thru: Off
Seq Change by Program: On
Pad to Internal Sound: On

Under Sync(F2)
Sync In: 1
Sync Out: A

So what am I doing wrong? I know that I can record my Triton using the record in features. But there is another way to do that using Midi right? I also know that Midi has nothing to do with audio so i do have a mixer to connect to that I may hear the keyboard.

you dont really need to sync the 2 together just to use the mpc to control the triton. on the main screen, in the bottom left of the window(mpc), you should see "midi". change the channel to 1-16 a if that is the port that you are using. then it should work. well, i assume that you already have changed the midi channel to the correct one on the triton too.

Ok so your saying that I don't need to sync the MPC to use the Triton sounds in it?

Also since I am using the seq in the Triton it should correspond to the midi channels so i've heard.

i dont have a triton, but i have an electribe that i use for a sound mod and i also use the mpc as a controller. the electribe has 2 synth parts and 10 drum parts. synth part 1 is midi channel 1, synth part 2 is midi channel 2, and all 10 drum parts are midi channel 10, which as i understand is the standard drum channel.

that being said, follow me here....

sequence 1, track 1. i want to control the first synth part(midi channel 1) of the electribe with the mpc. what i have to do is simply change the midi channel of track 1 from off to 1a because i am running my midi line out of the mpc midi port a.

sequence 1 track 2. i want to control the second synth part(midi channel 2) of the electribe with the mpc. here i do the exact same thing except change the midi channel of track 2 to channel 2a. if i went to 1a, both tracks would be trying to play the same synth part.

sequence 1 track 3. i want to map the 10 drum parts to the 1st 10 pads of the mpc. i need to assign the track midi channel from off to channel 10. then i have to assign each pad to the corresponding note that the electribe assigns those drums. example drum part 1, kick c3, part 2, snare d3 and so on. its a pain in the ass. if you have to do this i recommend saving a program pre mapped to the correct notes

so i actually never sync the 2 together. im using one as a controller and the other as a sound mod. so basically im sequencign with the mpc with the sounds of the electribe.

i think syncing is used to make sure that both sequencers stay together. so it really wouldnt matter if you are not trying to use both sequencers at the same time. but then im not entirely sure about this because ive never had to use it. yet.

I am either doing something wrong or I am as dumb as a box of rocks...

I have tried all the combinations I can think of...

Maybe I am just not understanding midi, as it applies to connecting my MPC to my Triton. I can get my triton to play the MPC sounds when I connect them. But I for the LIFE of me can't get the Triton sounds into the MPC.

Is the only way to just record it into the MPC through the record inputs?
